Packing Guide for Greek Motorcycle Touring: Seasonal Recommendations
Packing the right gear will make all the difference. Here’s our expert guide to what to bring with you — both on and off the bike, tailored to Greek climate conditions.
Motorcycle Riding Gear
Helmet (mandatory)
We recommend a full-face or modular helmet with good ventilation.
Riding Jacket
- Summer (June–August): Lightweight, mesh-panelled jacket with armor. Avoid leathers, heavy Cordura or multi-layer systems.
- second half of May and first half of September: same as for Summer. Temperatures are warm enough. Most riders will be comfortable wearing summer jackets.
- first half of May and second half of September: Mid-day temperatures are warm enough for a summer jacket. Early mornings and late afternoons, close to or after sunset, may require an additional inner layer or a lightweight windblocker. Alternatively, a 4-season jacket with removable liners and vents works well for most riders.
- March-April, October-November: a 4-season jacket with removable thermal liners and vents. Carry a lightweight waterproof layer or rain shell.
Riding Pants
- Summer: Well-ventilated, mesh or light textile pants with protection.
- Cooler months: Textile pants with thermal liners or overpants you can layer over casual wear.
Gloves
- Summer: Lightweight, breathable gloves with knuckle protection.
- Cooler months: Midweight or thermal gloves. Consider bringing both a summer and a warmer pair.
Boots
- Touring or adventure boots with ankle protection, water resistance, and good grip.
- Break them in before your trip!
Base Layers
- Technical (moisture-wicking) base layers make a huge difference in hot weather.
- For cooler days, pack thermal base layers or merino wool layers.
Rain Gear
- Summer: showers are rare, and when they occur they rarely last for more than 30 minutes.
- Late Spring/Early Autumn: Even if the forecast is clear, it’s smart to bring a lightweight rain suit (jacket and pants) if your regular riding jacket does not offer rain protection.
- Early Spring/Late Autumn: Rain gear should be in your packing list.
- Rain protection is also great as a windbreaker in higher altitudes
Clothing for Off the Bike
Greece’s weather can shift depending on elevation and season. Be prepared for warm days and cooler nights, especially in the mountains.
Suggested Items
May, Late September:
- Long pants, T-shirts, and a light jacket or hoodie for the evenings.
- A light down jacket or windbreaker can be useful in mountain villages after sunset.
June–August, Early September:
- Shorts, T-shirts, light cotton or linen shirts.
- Evenings are mild, but a light sweater is still a good idea, especially if your itinerary includes mountain destinations in the Pindus range (Tzoumerka, Zagoria).
April, October:
- Consider layering options: t-shirts, long-sleeves, fleece, and a shell.
- Evenings can get chilly at altitude – pack accordingly
Other Useful Items
- Sunglasses
- Neck buff or bandana (for dust/sun)
- Sunscreen & lip balm (high UV in Greece!)
- Insect/bee bite soothing gel – especially useful in late spring and summer!
- Reusable water bottle or hydration pack
- Casual walking shoes
- Swimwear
- Earplugs
- Power adapter (Type C/E/F plug) for EU outlets
- Small daypack or tank bag for daily essentials
- Micro-fibre towels. They pack light and small, they wick moisture quickly (important, when you are getting ready to pack and leave your hotel).
Optional Motorcycle Accessories (If You’re Bringing Your Own)
- Mount for you GPS or smartphone – in case you use a proprietary system other than what we provide (“X-Grip”).
- USB charging cables & powerbank
- Small toolkit (our motorcycles come with the very basic kit from factory)
Packing Tips.
- Pack light. Space is limited on motorcycles, and you won’t need as many clothes as you think.
- Roll your clothes to save space and reduce wrinkles.
- Use packing cubes for organization.
- Weather in Greece changes quickly in the mountains — be ready to layer and adapt.
